It was the first week in June and I was headed from Medford, OR to Cedar Rapids, IA. I have been to Crater Lake many times when I lived in Oregon, but I never pass up a chance to visit.
The water is an unbelievable deep blue and the snow will be on the ground until late August. Some years the snow lasts all year. It is neat to visit in the late summer and throw snowballs around or slide on the snow.
On this visit the gift shop and snack shop were closed for renovation. There use to be a parking lot located between the gift shop and the lake rim but it has been removed and now there is a nice view of the lake from the shop. It looks like parking will be at a premium in the summer though.
