I saw the sign for this place when returning from Glacier National Park in the Spring.  I made the detour but arrived just as it was closing so I left disappointed.  The Range closes at sundown since the bison roam free and it would be dangerous for the bison and visitors.

I returned two days later on my way to Spokane and was glad I did.  The bison roam free in this large area with as little human intevention as possible.  The roam, eat, and breed on there own.  They must life off the land as no additional food is provided during the winter.  when the herd grows some of the stock is transferred to other refuges or zoos the maintain a sustainable number.  The cars drive a loop in the range and even though visitors can get out of their vehicles it is advised to stay near the vehicle as the bison are wild animals and can outrun a human.
