San Diego Maritine Museum

This was a side trip I took while I was working in Oceanside, CA. It was a wonderful trip because I was able to take the Coastal train from Oceanside to San Diego and it is always a plus when I can ride a train. The ride took about 45 minutes and followed the coastline for most of the ride. It dropped me off at the Santa Fe Depot which was about four blocks from the museum.
I took the trip with the intentions of touring the USS Midway. I did not realize before I arrived that it was FleetWeek and there would be much more going on. If I had arrived earlier I would have seen the parade of ships.
The USS Midway tour is definitely a guy thing. Big, noisy, and full of lots of stuff that we have no idea what it does but it looks impressive. They have much of the ship open for self-guided tours so people are able to get a good overall idea of its workings.
The tour of the Cold War ear Russian diesel submarine was an unusual tour. Similar to old American submarines I have toured but the most fun was trying to use my limited Russian language skills to decipher the words. I had some success and fun.
